Smart Tab Timer Privacy Policy
Smart Tab Timer processes extension data only to provide its user-facing tab timer, safety, automation, restore, settings, and statistics features. This processing happens locally in Chrome on your device. We do not receive, sell, share, or use this data for advertising or profiling.
Information processed locally
The extension may process and store the following information on your device:
- tab titles, URLs, favicons, tab IDs, pinned state, and audible state;
- timers, site rules, safety preferences, warning settings, and language choice;
- up to 20 pages recently closed by the extension for the Restore feature;
- aggregate local counts such as closed, protected, snoozed, and restored tabs;
- temporary timestamps indicating recent interaction with a managed page.
Page safety checks
When the extension has access to a managed page, it can locally determine whether media is playing and whether a form or editable area has received input. It sends boolean safety states to the extension background only. It does not read, record, store, or upload the contents of form fields, documents, messages, or page text.
How the information is used
- schedule, update, cancel, and safely execute tab-closing tasks;
- postpone pages that match an enabled protection rule;
- apply allowlist and automatic-timer site rules;
- restore pages recently closed by the extension;
- show local usage summaries and preserve user preferences.
Storage, retention, and deletion
Tasks, rules, settings, recent-close records, and aggregate statistics are stored in Chrome extension local storage. Recent interaction timestamps use session storage and are cleared when the browser session ends. Users can cancel tasks, clear restore records, remove rules, reset statistics, revoke optional site access, or uninstall the extension to remove its locally stored data.
Permissions
- tabs: list and manage tabs selected for timed closing.
- storage: save tasks, rules, preferences, restore records, and statistics locally.
- alarms: reliably trigger timers after the extension background sleeps.
- notifications: warn before closing and offer cancel, snooze, or override actions.
- activeTab: temporarily enable page features after an explicit user action.
- scripting: inject the timer overlay and local safety checks only on managed pages that the extension can access.
- contextMenus: provide right-click timer and site-rule shortcuts.
- optional site access: enable persistent page enhancement only when the user opts in from Settings.
No external transfer or remote code
Smart Tab Timer has no account system, analytics SDK, advertising SDK, external API, cloud database, or remote executable code. Extension data is not transmitted to The Best Tools or any third party. Exported backups are created only after a user action and saved to a location selected by the user.
Chrome Web Store Limited Use
Smart Tab Timer's use of information received from Chrome APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Information is used only to provide or improve the extension's clearly described, user-facing features.
